FDA's new tips on sunscreen & babies
Sun is an inevitable part of South Florida living and our littlest munchkins need a little extra sun TLC (their think skin means heightened sensitivity to chemical absorption, allergic reactions, dehydration & sunburn). The FDA recently issued new guidelines, here’s the parent cheat sheet for infants & the sun:

- Try to keep infants 6 months and younger out of the sun
- Avoid sun exposure between 10am-2am (when UV rays are most intense)
- Keep babies in the shade
- If you can’t avoid the sun, use a small amount of SPF 15 or greater on small areas like cheeks & backs of the hands
- Swab a bit of sunscreen on your munchkin’s inner wrist to test her sensitivity before spreading everywhere
- Dress little ones in lightweight long pants, long-sleeved shirts & brimmed hats
- Watch munchkins for fussiness, redness & excessive crying – could be signs of dehydration or sunburn
- Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate - with formula or breast milk
Good news - once your munchkins hit the six-month mark, South Florida is stocked ways to play. Check out our list of outdoor fun activities & get started!
